The team is suspicious
when Jimmy calls an unusual meeting following training, and the Unvincibles in
particular are rattled when they see a police car parked outside the Lair.
Jimmy introduces the youthful Detective Constable Lorimar, who reveals she is
here for the Unvincibles worst nightmare - the investigation into J.F's death.
She asks for assistance from the players who were clients at J.F's casino, and
when Sean adds he heard J.F died of natural causes, DC Lorimar informs him they
are pursuing new information.
DC Lorimar questions Sean on how she's seen the logbook referring to them as "The Invincibles". Sean asks her what this is about and she replies evidence has come to light that J.F might not have been alone on the night he died. Danny has started spending time on the Harchester.net forums, and overhears Jimmy telling Amy how certain information is being leaked on there. Danny later nearly catches Miguel and Jason going through their alibi for the night of Jason's birthday. As Gavin realises Cindi will soon know all about his gambling, Sean joins Miguel in being hauled into Jimmy's office. He tells them this is down to what Michelle has told him about their individual gambling, and says they better pray the fans don't turn against them over this.
After DC Lorimar visits Jason, Katy is present to hear him lie to her and takes him up on it. She tells Jason all about how she knows he wasn't home with the boys, as she got in at half-midnight and he wasn't home. Jason accuses Katy of not trusting him when they are supposed to be getting married and storms out. He goes and warns Miguel and Sean that Katy knows, followed by Gavin socking Miguel one after Sean spills on the stored away money his mom found under Miguel’s bed. Jason is pissed off with the lot of them, and says they better back him up for Katy. Outside, he encounters an unwelcome blast from the past in Emma, who menacingly requests a word with Jason. Emma asks for ten thousand pounds, as she's allegedly behind in the rent and modelling work has dried up. An already stressed-out enough Jason agrees, just to get her to go away.
Cindi goes to Amy and sobs loudly over the gambling
debacle, with all employees working outside the room hearing every word. Danny
slivers in, and gets what he can from the conversation, before it is now
Cindi's turn to stay with them. As soon as they are out, Danny is on Amy's
computer, typing up the latest from Dragonslayer on Harchester.net. Jimmy
unveils Danny as a new coach at training, and says he will assist both them and
the reserve team. Jimmy is confident the team can bring home the title for the
first time in 21 years. When Jason asks Miguel to lend him the ten grand, he
flatly refuses, so Jason has to tell him plus Gavin and Sean that he slept with
Emma on the night in
Amy receives a call from Tom Magee (whom she seems very pally with again) who informs her of Dragonslayer's posting on Harchester.net. She prints the pages and takes them to Jimmy, who insists his trusty sidekick Danny also be kept in the know of what's going on! The fans are furious, and Amy refers to one post that says a fan saw Miguel in Marbella with Karl Fletcher (and Elvis). Jimmy is worried about how much select information this 'Dragonslayer' knows, and Amy sets about getting in touch with Gareth who runs the site, and someone she already knows to be a "nice bloke" ;) Gavin asks Danny if he could go to theirs just to see Cindi, but Danny says he'd be braking the promise he made her not to let Gavin in. Danny sneakily suggests Gavin just tell him what this is all about, but Gavin grows a pair and tells Danny it's private, thus saving his marital details from Dragonslayer.
Jason tells Katy he has a meeting with Tony, and collects the Emma-money from
Miguel before heading to the Grange. Katy then gets a call from Tony himself
and learns he isn't in Harchester at all but in
Jason gets a shock himself when Katy appears from behind him in
the Blue Room. She questions him about what he told her, revealing she knows he
can't be meeting Tony as he is in
At the club, Amy has a word with Team Coordinator Hannah about the conversation she and Cindi had ending up online. Hannah points out to her that everyone outside could hear, so Amy tells her to send a memo to all staff that passwords are to be used on computers now. Getting no money out of Jason and Katy, Emma warns this isn't over and stomps off. Danny is spooked to learn Amy knows Dragonslayer used her computer, but they have no way of telling who it is other than a member of staff. Jimmy comes in to tell them he is holding a team meeting over the matter. Katy is furious with Jason, and yells at him to look at Fletch's FA Cup winning shirt to remind himself of the man he used to be before football, and before he betrayed the old Jason Porter.
DC Lorimar pays Gavin a visit in an attempt to learn how he knew J.F. She reveals they are looking to find out how J.F managed to sustain injuries to his ribs and chest when he died choking to death. Luckily Gavin manages to get away when Sully calls with news of the meeting. Jason is told by Emma he has forty-eight hours to get her money, and Miguel nearly earns a second black eye from Tyson over his recent behaviour. Jimmy addresses the lads with how they cannot let this latest media attention affect their game. He reminds the team that not even the greats who have played for the club in the past have been in the position they currently are now - with the chance of winning the title, and nobody out there who wants to stop them should be allowed.
The Unvincibles plus Jason hold their own meeting in the showers
afterwards, where Gavin informs them of the police's latest inquiries. Jason is
worried the injuries to J.F will be traced back to him, as they are from his
attempts to help him, but Sean continues to insist as long as they stick to
their story they will be fine. Later, as Jason sits alone in the dressing room,
a familiar, yet invisible voice begins speaking at him, and he is stunned to
turn to his side and see Fletch next to him. Fletch taunts Jason on the mess he
is in, and grins that he was never going to cut it here anyway. When Fletch
tells Jason he'll lose Katy and was only ever a Tyre Boy anyway, Jason yells at
him to shut up, only to find Fletch is gone and he is alone in the dressing
room again.
Notes:
· Terry Kiely’s third guest stint as
(the un-dead) Karl Fletcher begins here, and lasts until the end of the series.
Best Known For: James Marchant’s
credits include "All About George" (2005), "Waking the Dead" (2007) and "Lake
· The Best: The returns of Emma, and of course, Fletch. The continued
on-screen use of “Harchester.Net” as a parallel to the real thing.
Logic: We see Emma slinging Jason’s autograph onto the Grange hallway carpet.
If she’s as money hungry as she comes across, wouldn’t it have been a good idea
to flog it on ebay? i.e. more cash for genuine Premier League star merchandise.
· Quotes: Miguel to Sean on what’s behind Jimmy’s sudden calling of a team
meeting: "Maybe Jimmy is going to announce your mother is the new team
masseuse!".
Continuity: Jimmy lists several HUFC legends of years gone by: Rodriquez (1998-2000),
Scott Lucas (1999-2001), Ryan Naysmith (2002-2006) and Karl Fletcher
(1992-1999, 2000-2003, 2004-2005). Fletch’s line to Jason about it not hurting
"as much as a peg to the back of the head" (355: The Day Before Tomorrow)
is an indication that the full truth of how and where Fletch died at Barker’s
hands came out after the coach explosion.
· Additional Info: The use of Harchester.Net (the on-screen version with a capital
‘H’) and the casting of James Marchant to play its real life owner Gareth Moore
in the series’ big final storyline, was a thank you from the DT
producers/writers for the support harchester.net had given to the show since
opening in January 2000.
Soundtrack: Black Eye Peas: "Pump It", Doves: "There Goes The Fear", Fall Out Boy: "Dance Dance", Snow Patrol: "You're All I Have."
