The youth team scan the team sheet for the reserve game, and Leon finds he will only travel "in case of an injury". He is confused, especially after he did well in the Birmingham game. Frank is beginning his role as Luis's assistant, and Luis tells of his desire to strengthen the squad in defence, promoting a youth team player to be paired with John. When Fletch lets Coates know he is dissatisfied under Luis, Ian puts the idea of deliberately working from home today in Fletch's mind. Frank comes and tells Leon he won't be needed for the reserve game after all, and Alex takes great pleasure in informing Leon how Luis has personally asked to see him this afternoon.

At the Grange, Coates tricks a chambermaid into allowing him into Luis's room for "documents", and he finds the Polaroid Lynda gave Luis before his first match in charge. Luis knows Fletch is playing games when he doesn’t turn up for training. At The Grange reception, Coates picks up a requested copy of the bills from he, Fletch's and Luis's rooms, again under the guise of club admin purposes. Kelly is hiding from Fletch, convinced he will discover it was she who took his car before it was stolen. Coates examines Luis's phone bill, and sees a number which has been called several times. Coates tries the number and Lynda answers. He hangs up, knowing he has more evidence of Luis and Lynda.

John has persuaded Sean that they need to go and see Fletch, to sort out this business before it affects his own, and the team's performance any longer. John leaves Fletch and Sean to talk. When Fletch admits he is fed up with everything going wrong in his life, Sean says they can sort the problems out one at a time, and tells Fletch they are going shopping for a new car. When Luis meets with Coates, Ian claims he has been sent anonymous information that he and Lynda are having an affair, and shows Luis the Polaroid and phone list. The youth team return from their game against the reserves, and Helen tells Leon and the returned Alex that Frank wants to see them both in the boardroom.

Luis can't understand how someone would have gotten the Polaroid out of his room. Coates makes it clear he is going to have to give this to the appropriate people running the club i.e. Jerry, and Luis asks him for the afternoon so he can do something. Frank sees Leon first, and tells him he needed to be convinced of his confidence and attitude, which Birmingham showed him. And how he's also shown Luis, who wants to offer Leon a pro contract! Leon is in total disbelief at what Frank has just said. Frank adds he knows it hasn't helped, Leon being in and out, which is why Luis wants him with the first team permanently, believing he'll blossom. Frank holds his hand out to Leon, who wipes a tear from his eye, and gives Frank a hug. Frank loves his job on days like this.

Lynda meets Luis in the park where he tells her of Coates's threat. Although worried about Jerry's reaction after last time, Lynda thinks it's time it all came out, but Luis wants to play in the FA Cup final more than ever. It is Alex's turn to see Frank, and he is stunned when Frank tells him the pro contract being given to a youth teamer will be Leon. Frank explains he knows they have both been competing for a first team spot, and he thought it was important that Alex heard this from him rather than anyone else. This is no consolation for Alex, who, after being told he will be staying in the youth team for now, gets up and storms out angrily.

Fletch tells Sean if he wants him in the right frame of mind to play football again, he will need his creature comforts and his mates around him again - he wants his old room back at the house. Luis goes back to Coates, and reveals Lynda is going with the same story as he, that it is all innocent. Coates says Jerry may be getting the bill and picture in the post, and Luis asks what should he do. Coates gives him his answer - that if he was to resign as manager for “personal reasons”, they could still resurrect the Betis deal, and Luis wouldn't leave in disgrace with nothing which will happen otherwise. Coates tells Luis it is his choice, knowing he has him where he wants.

Notes:

·          The Best: Luis adding his own personal touches to his office, formally Coates's, with an Argentinian flag on the desk and a prominent photo of him with his 'idol' Maradona. Leon getting the news of his pro contract, followed by Billy proudly getting onto a table and announcing to the youth team and canteen how Leon is Harchester United's latest professional. Alex watching the scene from the door, his face full of hatred before stomping off from the scene. Sean’s caring for Fletch and getting their friendship back on track, taking him to shop for a new car, all lovely scenes.

Quotes: Sean: "So you busy this afternoon then?  Fletch: "Yeah. They're showing Titanic on the hotel video channel. I'm going for my 50th viewing". And when browsing the Mercedes car dealer: "The last car was always a babe magnet. Kelly went wild over it".

·          What Was The Score?: We don’t see the youth team’s reserve match, but hear Billy scored 2 of a 4-0 win.
