Ryan clashes with an opposing player when in the reserves against Birmingham City, and is red carded. Coming in, Fletch and the lads are hostile, and Ryan is genuinely struggling. When the team are left waiting on the coach, Fletch and Andy go back for Ryan, and find him having cut his wrists on a smashed mirror. Meanwhile at the Lair, Harchester beat Blackburn Rovers with a goal from Stuart, and his good night is ruined when Fletch gets back to inform him about Ryan's injuries.

Abi finds Fletch in a distressed state over Ryan, feeling guilty for laying into him, but also his financial woes - owing half-a-million on this tax bill and nothing put away for their future. Abi assures him he still has her. Stuart gets to Ryan in Birmingham General Hospital, where he is told his son will pull through. When the bank will only give him half of what he owes, Fletch goes and asks Patrick about getting the rest. Patrick reminds Fletch his best days are behind him and though he'll speak with Phil, he'd be better going back to the dog track.

Tara reacts badly when she learns of Ryan's suicide attempt from Nikki and Sandra. After Ryan wakes up, Stuart goes to see Tara and finds her in the process of running away. He believes his son and tells her she is a coward. Fletch decides he is going to get through to Patrick on the direness of his situation, and walking into his office unannounced, finds Mrs. Wallis on top of the manager! After talking with Nikki on how the accident has affected Tara, Stuart finds her sitting above the road where the accident happened. She confesses to Stuart that she was driving that night, but the police didn't believe her.

Fletch is unsurprised when Patrick turns up at his house, and Fletch lays down his terms – the original contract he wanted, with half-a-million signing on fee and his secret is safe with him! Despite Phil again refusing and saying the only option for Fletch is the eight-grand or goodbye, Patrick bluffs to Karl that it is sorted. Stuart takes Tara to Ryan's hospital room, where she tells him she is going to make a full statement on how she was the driver. Outside, Stuart and Tara kiss. Patrick calls Fletch to his office, where he presents him with £100K, adding at 20/1 it becomes £2M. Fletch is confused, and Patrick reveals he has a bet on Harchester going down... and can he count him in?
