The Root Of All Evil
On-pitch, Harchester are storming the league, but off pitch, Fletch and Abi are plagued by her past. Meanwhile, Jacquie scores with her first project as Marketing Director.
The boys are hard at work in training and on a high from their brilliant start to the season, after such lost the year before as well. Stuart Naysmith, the coach is eager to hear news on Mendoza, and rightly so. Doyle is obviously not as happy with the whole thing because of his recent bet. Robbie, who is supposed to be a gelled force with Marcel Sabatier, ends up taking him to the floor in the training much to the displeasure of the Tunisian himself. Stuart calls Robbie over and tells him to get to know Marcel because they need to become a strong force in the middle of midfield.
Meanwhile a young boy is trying to break into Stuart Naysmith's house at The Barons. He receives a phone call from the police telling him of this. When Stuart gets home we find out that it's actually his son! Across the road at Phil Wallis' new home, Jacqui is eager to buy a villa in Spain. Phil on the other hand knows that he has used the last of his money on the striker Mendoza, so he tries to calm the whole situation down. If Jacqui was to find out she would leave him for sure. Back at Stuart's we find out that his son used to play for Birmingham until he just upped and left because he had a falling out with the coach. To the shock of his father, Naysmith junior asks to borrow dfr2000! Stuart speaks to Patrick Doyle about a player they should get, who's available on a free and who is very good. He is obviously talking about his son but he keeps that bit quiet. Patrick decides he can have a trial.
Fletch goes out with the boys to find his misses, Abi, handing another man a cheque and acting rather friendly towards him. Straight away he thinks she's at it. Fletch is introduced and finds out that the man is called Jimmy Spence and that he went to the same college as Mrs Fletcher. Abi doesn't tell Karl that she handed other money, and Karl obviously is jealous about the whole thing and tells her that she is his wife and shouldn't act so 'cozy' in public. Abi leaves in a mood and Fletch is made a fool of in front of the lads. Robbie without realising what he is doing tells Fletch about Abi handing over a cheque.
Back at The Barons, Stuart tells Ryan, his son, about the 'kick around' he can go to with Harchester tomorrow. We find out that the two haven't spoke for quite awhile, they argue and Stuart even forgets that his own son is allergic to Chinese food.
Karl is back at home and determined to get to the bottom of this whole thing with Abi. He asks why she gave Jimmy 'his' money. He finds out that Abi gave the man ten thousand pounds. Jimmy has a 3 year old baby son who is very ill in hospital and the only way he can be saved is with a ten thousand pound operation. While Abi goes upstairs, Fletch goes in her purse for the cheque details, rings up the bank and cancels the cheque.
The next day at the stadium, Phil wants Jacqui to take her mind off buying the property, thus thinking of an idea to get her involved with the club. He tells her she can be Head of Marketing. At training, to keep his identity secret, the boy plays under the name Ryan Greene. He impresses in training, much to the delight of Stuart. Half way through though he brings down Fletch nastily and is taken off to cool down. Patrick is impressed. He thinks that Ryan is abit roar but other than that looks like he can become a very good player. Meanwhile, when Ryan is collecting the cones, the boys back in the changing rooms think it's a good idea to take all of Ryan's clothes and soak them in the shower. Ryan already annoyed from having to pick up cones, realises his clothes are missing and finds them soaking wet in the shower. Patrick confronts Stuart about the whole Ryan business telling him he knows that it's his son. Stuart apologizes and Patrick accepts it. Stuart though is furious after finding out his son had been kicked out of Birmingham on suspicion of Arson. Ryan tells Stuart that he didn't do it but Stuart thinks otherwise. They have a heated argument, with Stuart finding out that Ryan is in trouble, Ryan tells his Dad to stuff football altogether and leaves.
Back at The Barons, Abi finds out that Fletch had cancelled the cheque. Jimmy is furious because his son's life is on the line. Jimmy threatens Abi, saying she either gets the money or he'll go to the papers and tell everyone about his 'wild' days with Mrs Fletcher. Abi tells Fletch that unless he is given the money, the papers will get hold of Abi having wild orgies sex parties with groups of people.
Jacqui Wallis is in London, sorting out something to do with her Marketing job with HUFC. She visits Sky Sports News Centre.
When Abi gets home she realises, from a voicemail, that Jimmy has told the papers everything. All the boys are playing cards, betting money when Abi walks in to speak to Karl. She had tried to ring him but Karl did not pick up. She is furious that they are playing cards wasting money, when the money could be going to a dieing boy. Fletch apologizes and gives Abi the money for Jimmy. Jimmy goes to the press and says it was all made up.
Ryan, who has been given a month's trial, gets to training and does it in style. While this is all happening Jacqui tells Phil about HUTV, a television channel dedicated to loyal Harchester United fans. Jacqui has everything planned out and it looks great.
