DT Cameos>> John Gregory Aston Villa's manager, who half-way through the 2000-01 season makes a £5M bid for Harchester's star striker Karl Fletcher. This brings conflicting motives at the Dragon's Lair, with manager Ray Wyatt against Fletch going as he sees him as vital to the club's Champions League qualification. While chairwoman Lynda Block wants the deal to go ahead for the vital funds it would bring the financially-insecure club. Fletch however, is in league only with Prashant Dattani, who determined to get the club off Lynda, makes sure Fletch scuppers the deal with a demand of forty-grand-a-week which leaves John flabbergasted and is ready to leave. Lynda manages to talk John into seeing Scott Lucas, which goes well as the move would bring Scott closer to his son in Bristol. However, when Ray locks he and son William in the physio room to prevent Kitty taking him away to Thailand, Scott kicks the door open, resulting in him breaking his ankle and costing him the Villa move. Having previously been manager for Villa's 2-0 away meet with Harchester in 1999-00, John is back shortly after his approach when Villa secure a 1-0 win. And away in 2001-02 where double goals from both Juan Pablo Ángel and Darius Vassell see Villa thrash Harchester 4-2.
