Sunday 28th October 2001 As a young man, John's career
began in the late 1950's, where he was an assistant editor on some of the era's
classic and iconic titles; "Killers of Kilimanjaro",
"Suddenly, Last Summer" (both 1959), "It Takes a Thief",
"The Trials of Oscar Wilde" (both 1960), "The Devil
Inside", "Johnny Nobody" (both 1961), "Damn the
Defiant!", "Lolita" and "The 300 Spartans" (all
1962). Before being sole Editor on "Breath of Life" (1963),
"Portrait of Queenie" (1964) and "The Lions Are Free"
(1969). By the mid-60's, John was
directing on cultural projects of the time "A Whole Scene Going" (2
episodes, 1966), "National Youth Theatre" (also 1966), short
"The Girls" (1968) and "Supershow" (1969). After
"Nelson's Touch" (1979), John directed The Who's acclaimed music
videos for their 1981 hits "Don't Let Go the Coat" and "You Better
You Bet". His work continued across the decade with "The
Professionals" (1 ep, 1982), four episodes of "Prospects"
(1986) and "The Naked Cell" (1988). Into the 90's, John directed nine
episodes of "The New Adventures of Black Beauty" while also working
as a producer on the series (1990). Followed by six episodes of
"Lovejoy" (1992-93). The 21st century saw John direct, write and
edit the 2002 video "How to Be a Wizard" followed by the 2004
shorts "Joe's Box" and "To a Poem" which he also
co-produced. |
