GS: Paul Hankin (Leigh Cranston) Emma Conlon (Jessica Hill) Jake Conlon (Billy Hill) Doctor Bradley (James Richardson) Frank Dodds (Maxwell Hutcheon) The press are out in force at The Barrons following the charity show events, and Matt and Lizzie are both besieged. Prash arrives at the club to find Hankin gleefully waiting to inform him of trouble he has ahead of him inside. Prash learns what he means in reception where he meets Frank Dodds, the FA's compliance officer, who reveals a folder containing photos of Prash and Didier's discreet meetings forwarded to them by a national newspaper. Lynda is getting the story from Rachel, how she being paired with Matt was innocent but they did have an affair at QPR. Prash believes Lynda should fire Rachel, before informing her of the FA situation brewing. Lizzie cries to Kitty about the press coverage, and her parents' embarrassment. Kitty advises Lizzie that if she still wants Matt she has to fight for him. Hankin plants seeds with Fletch and Scott that if they don't believe Didier took a bribe they should ask who Dodds is. Sure as, Zoe confirms to them that Dodds is from the FA. Dodds tells Lynda he will need to speak to everyone present at the Spurs game last season. At training, Scott and Fletch make sure to let Didier know the FA are at the club investigating his bung allegation. When Prash turns up pitchside calling to Didier to come with him, Ray blocks him from taking Didier out of training. Full of dread, Didier runs from the both of them, taking Ray's keys and speeding off in his car. When Ray learns Frank Dodds is here, he knows something is going on. Ray watches the Spurs game back, focussing on Didier's behaviour, and can now see exactly what was happening. Ray angrily accuses Prash of being responsible and demands to know if Lynda knew. Didier hides in his room at The Grange, and Hankin pays a chambermaid to gain access where he makes Didier hear the only option left is to speak to him, and make one-hundred-grand which he’ll need as he's never going to play for United again. When Lynda reminds Ray it is Didier, the friend he brought to this club, who is the guilty one, Ray points out she has known for five months and didn't tell him, and refuses to help she or Prash stall Dodds while they locate Didier. Lizzie approaches Rachel, and helps her into the car when the press surround them both again. After assuring Rachel she isn't going to hurt her, Lizzie explains in order to begin salvaging her marriage she needs to know what Rachel wants. Ray defends his squad to Dodds, who is not impressed to hear Didier left the club without receiving his message, and now they don't know where he is. Rachel is perplexed when Lizzie makes her go with her to get the weekly shop and then pick up the children from school. Matt goes to Lynda and Ray with how Fletch and Scott have gone to Didier’s room over what Hankin's been saying. Fletch gets right in Didier's face, reminding him how he had Sol Campbell on corners but didn't go near him, while Scott brings up the penalty and why he had to take it and not Luis. Scott adds that he and Fletch know he is guilty, and if he was man enough he would admit the truth, before Fletch spits on Didier. Ray phones Didier and on his voicemail tells him he cared about him more than any other player he's ever worked with, and he does this. Fletch, Scott and Matt summon Lynda and Ray to the dressing room for a conference where they tell the management they cannot be expected to play with Didier again. Lynda believes Didier wouldn't try something like this again, but Ray overrules and says Didier has to have played his last game for the club. Scott brings up Dattani, and Lynda uncomfortably has to admit nothing will happen with him as without his money the club is bankrupt. What they have to do now is convince Dodds the story is not true, as the FA will deduct points, or even relegate Harchester if an investigation is launched. Ray is outside Didier's door but cannot get an answer. He pays the (now-loaded) chambermaid Hankin bribed to open the door, but the chain is on. Ray breaks through the door and finds Didier lying on the bed having taken an overdose, with a letter addressed to him on the side. Ray manages to rouse Didier and get him over the toilet to vomit the pills, while phoning Lynda to get Doctor Bradley here. Lizzie apologises for scaring Rachel, but asks her to see the whole family life Matt has away from seeing her. Bradley thinks Didier will be OK as he didn't take that many, and Ray is determined to keep this out of the press. Didier decides he has to speak to Dodds, and reveals to him that he took an overdose but Ray saved him. Kitty reads Didier's note to Ray, about how he feels he has disgraced their friendship and to remember him in the better times. Ray feels bad that Didier could have died. Didier tells Dodds of how lonely he's been in a new country, and Prash was the only one with anything he had in common. They spent time together and began a relationship, which Hankin found out about, and when he couldn't print the story he made one up about Didier accepting a bribe from Prash. Dodds is stunned, but Didier begs him not to reveal his "secret" to anyone. Lizzie tells Matt after kidnapping(!) Rachel for the day she has come to realise Rachel isn't a spiteful person, but says she doesn't want to lose him either. Matt tells Lizzie he isn't going to leave her. All Lynda and Prash can do now is hope Dodds bought the story, though Prash is left unaware of his other relationship with Didier! Notes: The Best: Rachel’s attempt to escape the Conlon’s house, only to find the back door locked, and Lizzie waving a kitchen knife (because she's chopping carrots for Matt) says she just wants to get to know the woman her husband prefers to her! Dodds on his way back to Continuity: Ray remarking he thought Jerry was bad as Lynda swears to him she only found out about the bribe at the end of the match. Hankin tells Fletch and Scott Didier's financial state is even worse than when he wrote the piece on his brother's vineyard going bust. Soundtrack: Coldplay: "Trouble" and "Shiver" |
