As Skip in Heartbeat (2007) |
The television roles have continued with you recently starring in several episodes of the drama "Crownies". Are you hoping to keep this up on Australian TV and would you star in Neighbours again if the chance came up? I don’t know about Neighbours, only because it can be such a long haul. Suddenly you have security and a regular wage coming in and those things can be addictive. One of the main reasons I left Dream Team after two seasons was I began to feel like I knew Luis almost as well as I knew myself so it almost stopped being acting. I’d love to do more TV whether it be in A recent film you starred in was the thriller "Patrick" directed by Mark Hartley. Was it just the script interested you or do sci-fi/horror (like this and Resident Evil) appeal to you more? Mark and his team are very passionate and very knowledgeable about film and that’s always appealing. He directed a fantastic documentary called “Not Quite Hollywood” about the “Ozploitation” period of Australian film making in the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. Probably the most famous film from that time was “Mad Max”. He actually interviewed Quentin Tarantino who is a big fan of that period of cinema. I felt like I was somehow getting to vicariously contribute to Australian film history by doing “Patrick” as it was a remake of a 1978 Ozploitation film of the same name. This July saw you in a production of Guys and Dolls at What a great show. It’s so cool. All the guys are in suits and the girls are in pencil skirts. It’s like “Mad Men” the musical! And the music is fantastic, especially when it’s played by a big orchestra. I loved it, and apparently the audiences did too! Listed for release next year is a short film called Stockholm. Is there anything you can tell us about it? It’s written by my brother Jason, who used to be an actor (in fact he was on Neighbours for a while about the time I started on Dream Team) and is now a writer. There’s not much else I can tell you without giving things away. We’re submitting it to a number of international short-film festivals so fingers crossed. Hopefully you’ll be able to see it soon. Thanks Martin for giving your time here. Is there anything else you'd like to add? As I say, Dream Team was a very special time in my life and it’s always great when other people share the love of something you’ve been involved in and have fond memories of. All the best, Martin Full credit list at Sue Barnett & Associates Interview by Andrew. Thanks to Carl Field for helping to brainstorm the Luis questions. |
