Liam & team Jason, Pavel Alex, Sully & team Jason, Pavel Jimmy, Alex |
GS: Detective Burrows (Matthew Dennison) Pavel Kovac (Nick Nevern) Alex is deeply embedded within the club since Lynda left, and Burrows starts to dig at his conscience, asking who will bring up their baby when he and Lynda are both inside. Jason is pushing himself hard training alone, and Pavel comes over and introduces himself. When Pavel suggests he give himself time, Jason replies time is the thing he doesn't have. Alex addresses the team that Lynda has left the club and it would be best if they just focused on what's important - beating That night Danny and Liam are room-sharing at the Grange, and Liam can tell something is up, telling Sully he should look to Alex who has lost his Mrs and baby but is still carrying on. When Liam says without Alex he would be banned, Sully lets him in on what Alex was up to with Chloe! Liam storms right up to Alex and decks him, having to be restrained by Gavin and Tyson. The team are stunned, as Liam walks away, and a bleeding Alex finds his feet. Amy is horrified Danny broke his promise not to tell. Shortly afterwards, Chloe arrives and Amy takes her to Liam's room. Chloe is already in tears, and all Liam can ask is whether it is true. Chloe cannot lie to him and admits it is, and pleads with Liam to give her another chance. He takes a long, cold look at her and says he never wants to see her again, and that it's over. Sully returns to the team and informs them that the Gaffer slept with Chloe. The group go and see Liam, who tells them he can never play under Alex again and is leaving Harchester, wishing them a great season. Pavel waits anxiously for a visit from the club doctor. After receiving the news, he goes to Alex's room and tells him he has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. All of Alex's problems now seem small in comparison, and he comforts his latest signing. This is why Pavel was in Alex arrives in the dressing room, and the players look set to walk out while he is still manager. He asks them to stay just to hear him out, and tells them not to let what happened affect their game, to do themselves and the fans proud. Alex leaves, having made his final team talk, and in follows Liam. As the teams take to the pitch Alex watches from his office, and after seeing Pavel score, calls for an old team mate, Jimmy Craig, who he has invited to the game. Jimmy is shocked to discover that having not seen Alex for four years, he is now offering him the chance to take over as manager of the club. Alex tells Jimmy he will need him to sign by the time the full-time whistle goes. Pavel slots in a second goal during the second half, and singles out a proud Jason in the crowd. Jimmy makes it outside to see the close of the game, and to admire what is now his team. Alex meanwhile, hears the end of the game on his car radio, as he sits outside the police station. He gets out and makes a walk to the doors. Inside, Alex cries as he confesses all to Burrows, only tells him he will not need to speak to Lynda as she had nothing to do with it, thus protecting her and their child. Notes: First appearance of Jimmy Craig (Danny Midwinter), who takes over as the new (and final) Harchester United manager. Last appearance of Alex Dempsey/Rose. Jamie Lomas had already begun his role as hardman Warren Fox in "Hollyoaks" by this time. Best Known For: Danny Midwinter has more than 50 credits as an actor, including well-noted appearances in "Kavanagh QC" (1997-98), "Beech Is Back" (2001), "Family" (2003), "Miss Scarlet & the Duke" (2020) and the films "Blackbeard" (2006), "A Landscape of Lies" (2011), Nipper Read in "The Rise..." (2015) and "The Fall of The Krays" (2016), "The Bromley Boys" (2018) and "24 Little Hours" (2020) The Best: Pavel’s mentoring of Jason, and he and Lopez’s on-pitch partnership, which sadly never goes anywhere else beyond here due to Kovac never being more than a two-episode character. With the pressing topic of his male cancer, and the actor’s goodwill to continue the role, a mid-season return would have been welcome. Continuity: Jimmy and Alex were team mates at Sheffield Wednesday (confirmed in next episode) and last saw each other in 2002 when it is likely Jimmy retired from playing, being 39 years old at his arrival here. Additional Info: As reported by Jeremy Langdon, Lynda is now five months pregnant. What Was The Score?: The Dragons beat Soundtrack: Boards of |
