Dream Team Writer Profiles: Cameron McAllister

 

Cameron McAllister was the Series Producer of DT in Season 1, and returned to the show in Season 6 to co-write 2 episodes.

 

After directing Hewland International's "Gamesmaster" in 1992, Cameron trained in drama at MerseyTV, leading to him directing 18 episodes of "Brookside" in 1995-96, and 9 episodes of "Hollyoaks" between 1996-97. After producing mini-series "Forgotten" (3 episodes, 1999), he worked with Hewland on two further productions; co-creating "Daylight Robbery" for ITV and directing 3 episodes (1999-2000), and Exec producing "Mile High" and a writer on "Mile High" (2003-05).

 

Cameron's other producing credits include "Jericho" (4 eps, 2005) and 13 episodes of "Primeval" including writing two. It was here in 2008 that he became a full-time scriptwriter, with episodes of NBC's "Crusoe", "New Tricks", "Holby City" and back to Hollyoaks for spin-off "Later". In 2009 he began an eight-year writing stint with "Emmerdale", penning 107 episodes. Following which he moved to "Coronation Street", where since 2017 up to 2025 he has written 96 episodes.

 

His 2024 4-episode written series for Channel 5, "Too Good to Be True" AKA "Captivated", was also a big hit on Netflix in 2025. Cameron is also a writer of two children's novels, "The Tin Snail" (2014) and "The Demon Undertaker" (2016).
