Team Players>>  Gary Blackburn

(#5 / #25) Defender (1998-1999)

Gary Blackburn was signed from Aston Villa in the pre-season of 98/99. His notable events during the season included Charlton away at The Valley where in the second half he was pulled down by Clive Mendonca, something referee Colin Kingsley ruled was not a foul. And selected for the FA Cup Final at Wembley where Harchester beat Manchester United 2-1 in a historic win.

Harchester are in the UEFA Cup for Gary’s second season with the club, and Gary gains selection for the First Round Second Leg against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena - a choice that doesn’t impress the left-out Eddie Moliano! At half time, Gary is taken off to be replaced by Sean, and Harchester win 2-2 on the away goal rule. As the team wait to fly home at Schiphol Airport, the club’s official transport is delayed until the following morning, and traveling on his own private plane, Biloo Kapur offers a spare seat to Gary.

Last seen flying into a stormy night sky, contact is lost with the plane, which is believed to have crashed in the North Sea. The club holds a memorial for Gary and their other perished team mates a short time afterwards.
