Episode Title: "Getting The Message"
Sky One Transmission Date: Written By Ian Ridley Directed By Bob Tomson |
Jerry Helen, Ian Luis, Phillipa Luis, Frank, Policeman |
GS: Phillipa French (Nadia Cameron-Blakey) Clare Farrow (Sarah Farooqui) Clayton Richards ( Ian tries to defend his actions to Helen, saying it's only right he gets to take his team to Wembley. Helen won't reveal where she’s hidden the phone and Ian forcibly makes her sit while he searches the room. Jerry goes into the dressing room and loudly berates Frank and the team for their performance, before adding the end-of-season party for the sponsors is being held tonight which they all are required to attend. Alex wangles things so he will be babysitting Clayton while Denise can go to the party with Frank. As the party gets underway, Jerry takes the mic and announces that the council has given Harchester 2000 the go ahead. Fletch takes great pleasure in telling Sean there's no way Luis is interested in Mica, because he's already after someone else's wife and has been for months - the Chairman's! After turning their room upside down, Ian still hasn't found the phone, and Helen knees him in the balls and makes a run for it. Leon sees Denise at the party with Frank and Clare and is angry to hear Alex has been left alone with Clayton. He points out that Alex has been responsible for half of what's gone wrong around here this season, and goes to find him. Luis has a spat with Jerry over he being fined for the pitch fight whilst Sean won’t be, and storms out. Ian is hot on Helen's heels as she runs through the party, and manhandles her away witnessed by Lynda and Frank. Helen breaks free outside The Grange, and runs straight into the path of Luis's car! As Helen is stretchered away in an ambulance, Ian goes with her claiming to be her husband! Leon warns Alex he will stay put at Denise's house until Clare gets back from the party. Luis is breathalysed and found to be in the clear. Luis and Frank arrive at the hospital to hear Helen is fine apart from concussion and bruising, and will be kept in for observation. Leon and Alex come to blows at the house, and Denise and Clare arrive home to them in a full on fight. Clare takes victim-claiming Alex's side and warns Leon if he doesn't stop this she will take Clayton and he’ll never see them again. From her hospital bed, Helen fights back at Ian that she won’t cover up what she’s found and the police can retrieve the message from the now broken phone. Luis, Frank and the policeman come in and Helen tells Luis it's he who is owed the apology, and she wants to tell them about something far more important. Ian knows it's all over. Notes: · The Best: A great episode for Fletch. Whispering something dirty (and inaudible) in Lynda's ear as Jerry addresses the crowd. Then cheekily asking if he can fill Luis's place with her when he goes to prison, resulting in a slap from Lynda. Not to mention his encounter with Phillipa, showing with an arm-lock she is not a woman to be messed about! Quotes: Fletch, when being Fletch, has some great lines: "It's a full time job being Karl Fletcher but some lucky git gets to do it!" and (to Sean on Mica): "I tell you man she is a cuckoo. In your nest!". Jerry (to Lynda) [on Helen's unfortunate collision with Luis's car]: "I hope that young lady realises she's ruined the night for everybody!" · Foreshadowing: Building starts on the new stadium, what is to be The Dragon’s Lair, next month (June 1999).
