Dolph, Jamie Campbell, Monday Ray, Campbell Ray, Kitty Jamie |
GS: Doctor Bradley (James Richardson) Tailor (Guido Reidy) Gary Bloom (as himself) No sooner has Lynda stepped out of her car at work that she has to throw up with morning sickness. Campbell is excited when he hears Richard Blackwood cannot make the Black Hair & Beauty Awards, so they have asked him to step in. Lynda overhears Ray on the phone to Kitty, encouraging her to stay for as long as her mother needs her. Campbell believes his big dreams are coming together, and remarks to Danny how by next year they could be on thirty-five grand a week like Monday, which Scott overhears. Ray thought Lynda was attending the clinic today for an abortion, but she informs him she has decided to keep the baby. Scott gets on the phone to Jeff over Monday's wages. Jeff sits before Lynda reminding her of the clause in Scott's contract that he should be on the same money as Monday, while she tells him they can't afford two players on those wages. Lynda cuts the meeting short to dash to the ladies to be sick again. In shooting practice, Campbell clashes with Jamie and Jamie goes down awkwardly on his shoulder, moaning with the pain. Campbell feels awful as Jamie is stretchered off to Doctor Bradley. Andy tells Ray they think Jamie has dislocated his shoulder. Ray, Andy and Dolph the physio have to hold an in agony Jamie as Doctor Bradley pops his shoulder back into his joint. Scott gets the latest from Jeff, where he is told the best option is to bide his time and he will sort him a move abroad where he will be on the same money as Monday. Cambell's personal tailor measures him up for his suit, and when Danny learns it will cost £1,500, he replies he needs that to pay for his brothers and sisters. When Bradley says a dislocated shoulder usually means four-to-six weeks out of the game, Jamie is determined to be back after two. After Danny and Fletch don't take his awards speech seriously, Campbell turns to Monday as a fellow black professional, and Monday advises him not to let himself become a commodity and let his talent as a footballer do all the talking. Ray tells Lynda how he wants her to have the baby but can't lose Kitty, as he nearly had a nervous breakdown when he left Monaco and it was she who kept him together. Lynda wants to know if she will ever be able to tell the child that Ray is their father, and he assures her she will. Things look up for Campbell when Tash says she will accompany him to the awards as his date. Jamie is worried about his prognosis, and fears for his place as first team goalie with Ash Harrison stepping in. Ray gets an almighty shock when Kitty makes an unannounced return with William. She apologises for not letting him know, and gives Ray further anguish when she wants to catch up with Lynda! As Harchester kick-off against Derby, Jamie gets on the phone to his bookie, and places five-hundred-to-one on Monday scoring the first goal. To Jamie's delight Monday completes the task, so he then places a further bet of two grand on Monday scoring the second. Jamie is soon jumping on the sofa as Monday slots in that second, with his bad shoulder bringing him back down to earth. Jamie can't resist calling his bookie again, this time with how there will be no more goals this game with only five minutes to go. Bandele makes it a hat-trick and Jamie is close to tears for what he’s lost! Campbell struts around the Players' Lounge in his pink suit on a buzz about tonight, while Fletch bides his time to smugly pass him a note he was handed by Zoe on reception earlier. Campbell is crushed to read that Richard Blackwood is back on the gig, and how he was only ever supposed to be a stand-in. Lynda is back in the ladies when Siobhan comes in and lets her know she has sussed she is pregnant, having been through the symptoms herself. Siobhan assures Lynda she will keep it to herself and is here for her if she needs a friend. Tash arrives and is not pleased to hear Campbell's news, having spent ages getting ready for tonight. She commands Fletch and the boys show her a good night out in London instead, but Campbell isn't in the mood to go and party. Monday reminds him of their talk, and how he needs to be prepared to listen, before inviting Campbell to supper with he and Siobhan. Notes: The Best: Campbell’s pink suit really is the stuff of (DT) legends. Dean Holness was believed to still own the suit himself as recently as Harchester Reunited in May 2020. Lynda having to field questions from her lover’s wife about what had been happening in Harchester while Kitty was away! Logic: When Scott remarks on how Jeff’s car seems unusual for him, Jeff replies it's "The wife's" car. Maybe they had recently divorced and Jeff got the car, but Mrs Stein is never present in Jeff and Tash’s Harchester lives, always known to be living in London. Quotes: Campbell arrives for the Derby game in his tailored pink number, and the lads have a good laugh while Ray is not impressed: "What have you come as? Do you like that suit?" Campbell: "Yep" Ray: "Good. It's just cost you two weeks wages. You know you're supposed to wear your club blazer on match days". Kitty with the immortal line to Ray upon her return: "I hope you've hidden your secret lover away!" Foreshadowing: We get an early glimpse of what Jamie is later a part of in Season 6, when he acknowledges to his bookie it's illegal for him to bet on his own team. Continuity: Lynda tells Ray of how she spent six years trying to get pregnant by Jerry, only to find out he'd had a vasectomy. Additional Info: This is writer Ben Harris’s first episode. After three seasons writing, he becomes Series Producer in S7 alongside Ellen Taylor, and Executive Producer in S9 alongside Jane Hewland. Another of the many DT behind the scenes personnel makes an on-screen appearance, with Production Co-ordinator Guido Reidy playing Campbell’s tailor. What Was The Score?: A corner kick from Scott sees Monday become the game's first scorer. By the end of the game Monday has scored a hat-trick and it ends Harchester 3-0 Derby, with everyone in Harchester thrilled but Jamie! Soundtrack: Moby: "Anthem" |
