Duration: EP: 229, 380, 385 - 387, 389 - 391 | SE: 5.1, 9.24, 9.29 – 9.31, 10.2 – 10.4 Detective Burrows leads the investigation into the murder of Harchester United chairman Prashant Dattani, found struck with a trophy in his office on the final day of the 2000-01 season. As the team are about to fly out for their first Champions League match against Real Mallorca, Burrows stops the coach and arrests Karl Fletcher for the crime. Fletch stands trial and is convicted, but at the verdict, Lynda Block confesses in court that she was responsible. Lynda serves three years in prison, and following her release she returns to the club as chief executive.
During that time, Burrows is promoted to Detective Chief Inspector, and returns to the Dragon's Lair when Lynda is tricked by postroom man Lenny Clarke that he is Mario Ruoppolo, the mystery owner of the club, who steals £2M of the fans money. Burrows reappears when Casper Rose, the real club owner, is killed with an ink bottle. After initially suspecting Eugene Rose, Burrows spots Lynda and Alex kiss, and points out the parallels of this case to that of Dattani, where Lynda was also pregnant by the manager. Burrows learns Lynda knew that Casper was the owner the day before his will was read, and that she would have known he and Alex were brothers before Alex knew himself.
With Lynda possibly going down for his actions, Alex plants an ink-soaked towel in Ashleigh's bag, and she believes she was responsible. Burrows is not convinced, and keeps up his pursuit of Lynda, now with letters in the style Casper would send as owner that he knows the truth. The pressure gets to Lynda, now months into her pregnancy, and Burrows is remorseful when she collapses and it is he who gets her to hospital. Knowing Burrows won't give up, Lynda knows for the sake of her baby she has to leave the club, and Alex. When it then comes out about Alex sleeping with Liam MacKay's wife Chloe, Alex is finished at the club, and with Lynda and his baby gone, he turns himself in to Burrows, taking full responsibility so Lynda will be left alone.
