Stevie has received a six-game ban for his fight with Linton where a West Ham player got hit. Patrick is determined to appeal. Lynda is distracted by other news, and Danny thinks he’s done something wrong when she turns up on the training pitch. Handing him a fax, Danny is overjoyed to learn he has been called up to the England Under 21's. Lynda gets it out of Claudia that she overheard her say she may never be ready to run the club, and Lynda informs her if she'd eavesdropped probably Claudia would have heard how she thinks she's too nice a person for the business of football.

Taylor has his eye on Danny as Jeff and the lads celebrate him with drinks in Studs. Fletch's arm has heeled and he is finally ready to rejoin the first team, to the delight of the lads. Owing to Sam's lack of interest in her club proposals in favour of pursuing Lynda, a disillusioned Claudia gets drunk with Fletch and lets Lynda believe he told her they are sleeping together. Taylor is sure to be the one to inform Danny he is eligible through his grandmother to play for Ireland in the World Cup. Lynda talks to Fletch about Claudia's assertion, and they realise she must have seen Fletch leaving her house when Sam visited.

Linton approaches Patrick about giving evidence at Stevie's hearing. Danny and Lisa go out to dinner with Taylor, and are further concerned with how Jeff has kept Danny in the dark about playing for Ireland, especially as his chances for England are reduced with other players with his position being first choice. Stevie is appalled when Linton rocks up to his appeal. Linton presents himself as cool and composed to the FA panel, and tells of how Stevie was in fact trying to hit him after their past was re-ignited following a joint session with Gemma. Despite nearly coming to blows with Linton again in the gents, Stevie's ban is reduced to three matches, with Linton being upheld as the game-changer to Stevie's disgust.

Danny's head is further turned by Taylor when he is able to put him in direct contact with Mick McCarthy when there could be a place for him in Ireland's friendly with Finland this weekend. Danny makes his decision to play for Ireland, and Jeff is flattered when Danny asks him to travel over with him for support. Fletch gets tough with Claudia over her Lynda tales, warning to let Sam know his daughter was behind the 'false' rumours about he seeing Lynda. Sam tells Lynda he knows she needs stability in her life, so asks if she'd marry him! He lets Lynda think about her answer, and sets her up with a holiday at the castle in the Highlands they previously stayed at. At the Ireland game, a cross from McAteer leads to Danny scoring with a header.
