HUTV has launched, and presenter Tara Keane is waiting to interview winning goalscorer Marcel. When Jacqui looks for Patrick to do his post match interview, she overhears him in his office doubling his bet to get Harchester relegated. When confronted, Patrick plays it to Jacqui that his 'bet' is an insurance policy for what would happen if the club was to be relegated, which was important after losing three players before the start of the season. When Jacqui points out a million is a lot of money Patrick responds with how he won't miss that million if they survive and make the Champions League.

With the press room set out for Mendoza's arrival, Phil and Jeff get word that Roberto won't be arriving until tomorrow. Tara saves the day when she tells the press they will not only get their moment with Roberto tomorrow, but even get to see him in action. Marcel takes his moment and asks Tara to be his date for a movie premiere tonight, which Fletch has to attend alone as Abi is working. Despite a good night out followed by a drink in the Blue Room, Marcel kisses Tara goodnight and leaves. Roberto arrives, but nursing a medial ligament injury, Patrick is advised by Trevor the physio that he should only do light stuff and not be let near a ball.

Despite friction between Fletch and Mendoza, he Curtis and Robbie show what they can do in training, and Roberto wants his slice, going in for the ball. Suddenly without anyone touching him, Mendoza goes down, wailing in agony. Trevor states he told Patrick not to let him do this, which Jacqui is shocked to hear. When Jacqui sees Trevor again he informs her Patrick fired him, as it was bound to be someone beneath him that got the blame. Jacqui confronts Patrick with how he set this all up and has every intention of winning his bet. Patrick tells her she has no proof, and when Jacqui plans to sack him he says he will sue her for wrongful dismissal and have her pay out on his contract.

At the hospital, Roberto is told his cruciate ligament snapped, and will not play for a year. Roberto holds Patrick responsible and demands Tara get her camera. With Marcel's recommendation, Abi is offered the position of chief physio at the club. Wanting to get things moving purchasing their villa, Jacqui gets an almighty shock when learning from the bank that Phil has withdrawn the last of their money. It is Tara's turn to get the next shock when presenting Jacqui with Mendoza's exclusive, when she decides it would be too damaging to use and they should drop it. Jacqui destroys the tape. When making a replacement programme of Fletch's career, Tara finds her own copy of Mendoza's interview and hangs onto it. Phil arrives home to find Jacqui has left him.

As Patrick seals his resignation letter, Jacqui enters. She holds the diamond necklace informing Patrick Phil paid half a million for it, and wants him to put a bet on for her - half a million pounds for Harchester to be relegated!
