DT Locations: St Andrew's

St Andrew’s, in Birmingham, West Midlands, featured in 4 episodes of DT in Season 2 (1999) and Season 6 (2003).

The March of the 1998-99 season saw Premier League side Harchester United meet First Division Birmingham City at the Lair in the FA Cup Quarter Final, a one-all draw. A fortnight later, Harchester are at St Andrew's for the replay, where beleaguered player-manager Luis Amor Rodriguez rests a win tonight on his decision to stay, and has former boss-now-director of football Ian Coates acting to usurp his position. The cusp of half time sees Karl Fletcher lead the score, a goal putting the warring pair of he and Sean Hocknell

on speaking terms again. Birmingham equalise after John Black unintentionally gifts them a penalty, which Paul Furlong scores. Going to extra time, Luis scores the winner.

Birmingham join Harchester in the Premiership at the 2002-03 season, and a month before the first League meeting for the two clubs in twenty years, Harchester's reserves play City's. Former Blues youth teamer Ryan Naysmith is already struggling with a hit-and-run charge hanging over him, when he is sent down from the first team, and red carded during the game. Ryan stays behind in the away dressing room while the team waits on the coach, and when Fletch and coach Andy Ansah go back to look for him, find Ryan lying in blood after cutting his wrists on a smashed mirror.

Harchester's first team return to the ground, and with his bet to see the Dragons relegated uncovered by the Fletchers and Marcel Sabatier, Patrick Doyle makes sure to take Marcel off, leading to the memorable moment of Marcel throwing his shirt at Doyle as he leaves the pitch. Harchester have by now let in two goals from City, by Paul Devlin in the first half, and Damien Johnson in the second. The 2-0 loss sees the Dragons sit in 20th place in the table, and facing almost certain relegation, Phil Wallis's anguish is at last too much for wife Jacqui to take. In the St Andrew’s car park, Jacqui confesses everything about Patrick's bet, her joining of it, and their affair with the baby they lost being Doyle's. The result being the Birmingham away game is Patrick's last, sacked with a punch in front of TV cameras at training the next day.

The St Andrew’s visits are also notable for two guest appearances by Karren Brady, managing director of Birmingham City between 1993 and 2009. The 1999 visit sees her endure Jerry's anecdotes, an encounter he obviously enjoyed more as when taking over his role a year later, Lynda finds a framed photograph of the two in what was his office. 2003's visit sees her meet a more subdued chairman in Phil Wallis, and Karren is sympathetic to his club's situation.
