GS: D.I Dawson (Eddie O’Connell)  Crime Squad Detective (James Bowers)

Early in the morning, D.I Dawson is keeping watch outside the Block's mansion, while his colleagues are outside the Dragon's Lair. On Dawson's orders they enter the stadium and tell Marilyn they are from the East Midlands Regional Crime Squad, and are taking relevant files. Marilyn calls Jerry, and Lynda is displeased when he plays down the situation to her, knowing he and Marilyn are keeping secrets. Dawson watches as Jerry leaves and knows his plan to get Lynda alone has worked.

Kelly has spent the night at Billy's, and finds him having sorted Leon's possessions. He tells her he won't be keeping any of them, as it's not like he'll forget Leon so they will all go to Clayton, Clare and Leon's mom. They get on to last night, and Kelly tells him not to worry as it won't have spoiled their friendship. Several of the lads are recovering from a rough night partying at Scott's, and are called into the club for a de-brief. When Dawson tells Lynda he'll need to search Jerry's study, she phones him at the club and says the police are at the house over the shooting.

When the second half of the team rock up late with Scott and Eddie, Billy uses the newspaper headline criticising Scott to challenge his attitude, while Scott in return mocks Billy's breakdown on the coach. Dawson makes it clear to Jerry they are searching his home and all of his businesses and properties to find anything that could link him to the shooting. The team's meeting descends into chaos, with Michael confronting Scott knowing he blames him for the loss in Glasgow. Ray has a word with Michael, and says the lads need to confide in him, which they won't with he and Luis, being management. Michael takes this as Ray believing he is not cut out to be manager, and storms out.

Dawson tells Jerry he believes he is aware of who shot Lynda and killed John Black, someone he got on the wrong side of. Jerry smugly asks how he knows it was a hitman, and Dawson retorts with how they have found the gun used. Lynda is furious that a bad deal of Jerry's could have got her killed. Billy talks to Ray, and when it’s mentioned Clare wants him to be Clayton's godfather, Ray replies he's got his own baby on the way. Jerry and Marilyn watch as Dawson addresses the press revealing he believes the Wembley shooting was the work of a professional gunman, and it is connected to business dealings involving Jerry Block. Marilyn is worried Jerry upset someone so much they wanted to kill Lynda, and fears she too is now a target, demanding Jerry tell her if there's anything he is holding back.

Michael makes Ann realise it isn't her working away that is the problem in their relationship - it's that he doesn't trust her to not leave him for another player. Marilyn addresses a loud crowd of reporters saying the club refutes any suggestion that Mr Block has ever behaved illegally in any of his businesses. Lynda waits up for Jerry to come in from work, and tells him she knows Marilyn was hiding the truth at her press conference. She asks Jerry outright does he know who shot her, and when Jerry shakes his head Lynda replies she doesn't believe him.

Notes:

The Best: Eddie gleefully shows Scott the back pages where his lack-of-scoring has been coined "Scot Free". Ray’s chat with Billy, where Billy tells him he wishes he wasn't going, as it's been nice having another Scouser around and there are far too many Cockney's in that dressing room!

·          Continuity: Jerry tries to divert attention away from his sniper with how anyone on the pitch beside he and Lynda could have been the target. Did Karl Fletcher get on the wrong side of a bookies or drugs dealer, and repeats Julie's theory that did some Falklands veteran try to take out Luis? Billy tells Ray how it was always Leon he'd confide in, and for all the trouble he got him into, doesn't know why Leon stuck by him. Ray reminds him Leon asked him to be his flatmate when they moved out of the hostel.

Additional Info: Ann finds the solution that could see her based in Harchester full time - she will sign up Michael's team mates who are new to the first team and without any representation, listing Billy, Eddie and Marvin Walker. As well as the first series of Hewland's ITV drama "Daylight Robbery", James Bowers (Crime Squad Detective) previously guested as a reporter in 2.74 who informs Jerry that Mica’s allegations against Luis have collapsed.

·          Soundtrack: Sarah Brightman: "Time To Say Goodbye",  Fatboy Slim: "Soul Surfing"
