Michael and Ann consult his agent Adrian about Harchester's plan to transfer him to Charlton. Adrian tells them they have very little control here, and should accept it, because refusing could end up ruining Michael's reputation in the game. At twenty-nine, he should take the chance of Charlton offering him first team football. This makes Michael reconsider the move, but Ann doesn't want to leave the Midlands, where she stands a chance of success rather than in London. When Ann says if Didier was to get injured Michael would have his place back in the team right away, so he tells her he will bypass Luis and go straight to Jerry to discuss this. Jerry palms off Michael to an unimpressed Marilyn, while all she can say to Michael is she hopes it works out for him.

An awkward situation arises when Didier arrives in the dressing room to be fawned over by the players, and Michael enters wanting a word with Luis but Ray takes him to the stands for a chat. Ray tells Michael he needs to take it on the chin and move on, he knows Alan Curbishley speaks highly of him and Charlton have better facilities than Harchester. Michael takes Ray's offer of driving him down to London to meet with Curbs. Marilyn is aghast when Jerry, determined not to lose the Didier bid, states they will borrow a further two million if Michael refuses to leave, on top of the twenty million they already owe. Kelly sits down for her meeting with Ann, and says she is OK with there no longer being a job since Ann will be moving the business to London. Ann assures Kelly they are going to fight Michael's transfer and stay in Harchester.

D.I. Dawson intercepts Jerry outside the Lair, and tells him his files will be returned to him. Jerry is smug to learn that nothing incriminating has been found, but Dawson assures him he will find it. Kelly brainstorms that if they raised Michael's profile it will make it harder to sell him, as no manager wants to sell the fans’ favourite. Ann asks Kelly, as a Harchester fan, would she prefer Michael or Didier Baptiste? Kelly is diplomatic, and responds with how Didier might not adapt to the English game. Alan Curbishley gives Michael a ground tour of The Valley, and talks of how they are wanting to extend the stadium to a twenty-eight thousand seater. Michael is impressed and seems happier about joining Charlton now.

Jerry turns up at Lynda's room at The Grange with flowers, convinced he can make her return home now the investigation has stalled. When Lynda tells him it changes nothing, Jerry accuses her of wanting to stay here because of Luis nearby. Michael takes a last look at the dressing room and bumps into Luis as he is leaving. When Luis says he is not happy about leaving things like this between them, Michael tells him he has accepted it's time to leave. Feeling lonely, Jerry invites Gordon round and presents him with a cheque for £5K for fixing the Michael deal. Gordon won't accept as he did it as a friend, but does accept getting drunk with Jerry - who needs to drown his sorrows! Luis sees Lynda in the Grange restaurant, and tells her he misses her, but Lynda, believing he has moved on to Marilyn firmly says they are in the past.

Getting sozzled again, Gordon admits while Lynda is beautiful she's one of the women that you shouldn't marry. Recalling his two ex-wives, Gordon describes the second one Francine as craving the excitement he didn’t want until she left him for someone more glamorous. Gordon tells Jerry Lynda is a Francine, and any talk of divorce will soon take away the feelings of love he has for Lynda. Jerry says he feels more depressed than before! Luis answers his door to Marilyn who says with Didier's transfer complete they have some celebrating to do. Luis gives in and he and Marilyn make out. Ann is now the one fighting to stay in Harchester, stating that after following him around for years she owes it to her clients to stay near. Michael says he is tired of coming second to her business, and gives her the ultimatum of two weeks until Christmas for her to join him in London... or the relationship is over.

Notes:

The Best: Eddie proudly acknowledging Didier in the showers, and Didier not already knowing Eddie's name, which Eddie takes personally. Gordon going into great detail to his old pal Jerry on his ex-wives: how his first wife Elaine was perfectly ordinary but he wanted glamour, considering himself another Georgie Best! So came his second wife, Francine who hated the game, would never watch him play and kept pestering him to move to a London club. She went to London shopping and never came back, moving in with a guitarist and taking Gordon to the cleaners. Gordon and Jerry’s friendship is wonderful.

·          Quotes: Didier asks where "Superman" Scott Lucas is and Wes remarks how "Clark Kent" has been a naughty boy and is with the youth team for the week.

Soundtrack: Morcheeba: “Part of the Process”,  Portishead: “Roads”,  Robbie Williams: "Strong",  Macy Gray: "I Try".
