Ryan is needing an emergency operation. Stuart assures Phil he won't go to the police about Marcel, but wants to sort him himself, finding he has done a runner. Jim McCoy from the FA Compliance team presents Phil with documents which show Real Madrid only received eight of the ten million paid for Mendoza, and wants to know why the two million was not declared.

Tash discovers Marcel has flown to Palma, but when Pilar learns something is brewing with Jeff and Roberto, her client, she sends Tash to Majorca. The doctor tells Stuart Ryan had to have his spleen removed, and will be on antibiotics for the rest of his life. Jeff explains to Phil that in order to persuade Pilar to convince Roberto to choose Harchester over AC Milan, he had to bung her the extra two million. Pilar however, tells Phil Jeff is lying and she only took one million from the deal. Phil catches Jeff just as he is getting in a taxi to flee, and punches him over the two million that lost him Jacqui.

Tash finds Marcel at his villa, but when she wants to know more, he reveals he is better away from everyone because he killed someone. Marcel tells Tash of when he was sixteen he was a big footballing prospect, with scouts from France vying for him. At the same time he had a girlfriend, and one day found her with his best friend, and a rage so strong came over him that he attacked Ahmed before stabbing him. Pilar got him out of Tunisia and every club he has been to she has found a therapist to keep his anger under control. Having not enough money for a flight, Jeff returns home.

Stuart waits with a baseball bat outside what he thinks is Marcel's villa, but he pounces on the wrong man and the police are called. Jeff drinks too much and his lit cigar falls on the floor starting a fire. Linzie gets Hope out and Fletch drags Jeff outside. Being deported at the airport, Stuart overhears Tash worried for Hope, and punches Marcel to the ground. Marcel visits Ryan in hospital where he tells him he is retiring from football. Ryan tells Marcel to stay, as he won't be blamed for ruining his career but also he's needed to save the club from relegation. Jeff thinks he's come up with the solution to save all their careers - to say the missing money went towards a scouting operation Pilar was handling in North Africa. Things continue to look bleak for the club as they lose 3-0 to Fulham.

Notes:

Best Known For: Martin Trenaman has over 70 credits as an actor, including "Microsoap" (16 episodes, 1998-2000), "tlc" (6 eps, 2002), "City Lights" (5 eps, 2007), Alan Cooper in "The InBetweeners" (10 eps, 2008-10) and its 2011 and 2014 movies, Lance in "PhoneShop" (19 eps, 2009-13), "Babylon" (6 eps, 2014) and Inspector Thorne in "Queens of Mystery" (12 eps, 2019-21). He also has a writing career of 30+ credits, notably "15 Storeys High" (2002-04), "TV Heaven, Telly Hell" (8 eps, 2006-07), "Stand Up for the Week" (17 eps, 2011-12) and on over 100 episodes of "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" (2003-14).

The Best: Filming abroad in Palma, Majorca. Always a bonus especially when Harchester are not in any European competition.

Continuity: Jeff meeting Pilar at the airport to be told Roberto wasn’t coming is good continuity, as we saw his non-arrival for his press conference in 6.5 Odds and Sods. Pilar did not feature in that episode, lending credence to this episode’s flashback scenes featuring their bung-plotting having only been filmed since Pilar’s introduction in 6.22 Signs & Wonders.

What Was The Score?: Harchester face Fulham, based at Loftus Road during this season. Jamie lets in two goals by Facundo Sava and one from Sean Davis in a 3-0 loss.

Soundtrack: Oasis: "Stop Crying Your Heart Out",  Archive: "Again",  Nookie: "Innerspace",  Feeder: "Child in You",  BT: "Dominic's Story",  Royal Gigolos: "California",  Dirty Vegas: "Simple Things Part 2",  Tom Mcrae: "Karaoke Soul"
