The team, particularly Scott, are furious to come in from being beaten by their own reserves, with Luis and Billy both absent. Luis has arrived at a farmhouse in Devon, where he finds Kitty, wife of his old friend and colleague Ray Wyatt, and sees she is pregnant. He tells her Ray didn’t know he was coming, and sets across three fields to where Ray is with his team of Cows. Michael asks Terry about Billy's whereabouts, worrying about his state of mind. Terry adds "Little Kelly from the canteen" would be good at getting through to him. Luis tells Ray he has a week and a half before the First Leg, and doesn't believe their chances in Europe are good. Ray tells him that's where he needs to start, as in order for the lads to believe in themselves, they need to see him do the same.

Marilyn organises a Harchester Sound interview for Wes, where he discusses how the UEFA rules should be changed on someone not being allowed to play if they weren't signed to the club at the beginning of the season. Billy opens his door to Kelly and Michael, and Mickey lightens the mood by adding how Billy's nineteen and has more trophies than he'll ever get. Before Billy points out the prominent top shelf was Leon’s. When Ray suggests a sports psychologist with good coaching skills so the lads wouldn’t feel uncomfortable, a stigma still being around counselling footballers, Luis tells Ray he would be the best man for something like that. Luis asks him for a month just to get through the Rangers games. Ray thinks he can't, as Kitty is five months pregnant and cannot run the farm on her own.

Marilyn tells Wes her plan worked better than she hoped - a family of three generations of Harchester fans have been sent out to UEFA HQ which the media loved, and UEFA have caved in to the request for Wes to play. Wes hides his anguish at the thought of facing Rangers well, pretending he is thrilled. Kelly tries to persuade Billy to get out of the flat and come for something to eat. Dave is excited for Wes going to Europe, believing he deserves this. Kelly and Billy sit down to eat in Flames, and Zena joins them, ready to follow Wes in schooling her that his name is Billy, not William!

Marilyn is with Lynda at the Block's mansion, and says she followed her injury from the news in Bangkok. Lynda says she doesn't mind talking about it as she doesn't have many visitors. Marilyn suggests they go out as she needs to find a new wardrobe for the English weather. Lynda says she'd have to ask Jerry first, as he worries about her being out, which Marilyn finds strange. Things get worse for Billy than having to sit through Zena's waffle, when Scott and Eddie arrive. When Scott remarks on how they were beaten by the reserves because Billy wouldn't get out of bed, Billy storms off, followed by an annoyed Kelly, and Zena is left alone. As Scott and Eddie shoot pool, Scott makes a deal with Eddie that whichever of them wins the game can pull Zena.

In Devon, Luis is about to leave when Kitty comes along with Ray's packed suitcase, saying he needs to do this job for the month, and she's arranged help for the farm with colleagues. When Wes is disgusted by Scott's bet over Zena, he offers to take her home, which Scott refers to as a kennel. Zena overhears and throws her drink in Scott's face! As they look through the files, Jerry comes across Marilyn's press cuttings of Luis, and she lets slip she had dinner with him. Lynda listens uncomfortably as Marilyn reveals Luis invited her to Glasgow for the Rangers match, and all Jerry can remark is that Mr Rodriguez is quite the lady's man!

Notes:

First appearance of Ray Wyatt (Mark Moraghan)

·          Best Known For: An actor of more than 70 credits, Mark Moraghan's early roles included the short-lived Waterfront Beat (1990-91), DO Quinn in London's Burning (1995-96), a lead player in sketch show Harry Enfield and Chums (1994-97), Love rat builder Greg Shadwick in Brookside (1998-99), and another regular role as Owen Davis in Holby City (2001-05). Prominently, in recent years he has taken over from another Liverpool legend Ringo Starr as the narrator on the present version of the Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends series.

The Best: Marilyn setting Eddie straight on his manhood. Kelly, when she sees the state of Billy’s flat poses the tasteless question "Who shot your cleaning lady?" Thankfully Mrs Block was not in earshot (because she can’t leave the Block mansion). Scott’s dousing from Zena.

·          Logic: Marilyn mentions there is a petition in support of Wes’s inclusion, ready to hand into UEFA in Geneva with over a thousand(!) signatures.

Quotes: Michael: "Four of our boys died on that plane you got that Scott?"  Scott (yells): "And you know what else died? Our season Mickey. Our season!".  Marilyn brazenly walking into the dressing room full of the lads, and standing before Eddie who has removed his towel: "Oh yes. Summer signing. £750,000 from Crystal Palace?"  Eddie: "You've been doing your homework girl"  Marilyn (eyes down): "You don't get much for £750,000 these days do you? How disappointing. I'm sure we wouldn't have signed if we'd known!".

·          Continuity: Luis asks Ray about the tickets he sent for the FA Cup Final, and Ray says it would have tempted him too much to make a return to the game being there. He adds terrible news about John Black, and asks how the woman who was shot is (she cleans for Billy now). Kitty says she saw in the paper that one of the boys they lost (Leon) was just nineteen. Luis adds his best mate is having to deal with death for the first time, and Ray says he only knew Billy by reputation at Liverpool, for he was leaving as Billy arrived.

Additional Info: Akemi Otani plays Kitty during the character’s handful of Season 3 appearances. Frances Johnson, formally Ian Coates, is back to writing with this episode, having penned 1.5 before moving in front of the camera as Coates from 1.15. He is also credited as Storyliner at this point.

·          Soundtrack: Lauryn Hill: "Doo Wop",  Alice Deejay: “Better Off Alone”
